The hike continued
up the steep, rocky slope after a long rest at the saddle.
Unfortunately, I was
unable to get to my camera quickly enough to get a good picture of this
rare Desert Bighorn Sheep. Our encounter with the animal was about 300
feet from the summit. He was only about 30 feet away from us. But by the
time I had my camera out, he had effortlessly bounced his way up to the
ridge...this was the best I could get. His rack was incredible. These
are beautiful, majestic creatures.
Jefferson Peak's summit,
11,949 ft. The peak is a large table--very flat, very rocky, very windy,
very cold. The structures you see here are some sort of weather monitoring
equipment (we guessed). If you know for sure what they are, let us know.
Markers like this one
have been placed at four points on the peak.
